There was a friendly happy atmosphere on the Leaf Green on Sunday 17th October 2021 as the runners gathered at the start but the competition on the course was fierce particularly due to the group of athletes from the Hunters Bog Trotters who kept the pace high. The course was mostly uphill over the first 5k, with some respite along the Riddell Estate track and glorious views of the Eildon Hills before winding back to the finish. The runners were cheered along the route by a great turnout of walkers of all ages.
In first place was Charles Houston of HBT who now holds the course record with a time of 39 minutes 8 secs. First woman was Catherine McGill also of HBT. There was great competition amongst the veteran and youth and plenty of dogs on leads in the mix. However the wise words of Sheena Cowan sum it up
"Whilst me and my team mate Lindsay were super slow we used the leisurely pace to think about the real purpose of the race for the family and the issues we were supporting".
A huge thank you to all the volunteers who made this event the day it was - the soupmakers, marshalls, time-keepers, medal-makers, medics, landowners, photographers, reporter and more.
The run raised an amazing £5,000 for Harris Trust
See you next year!
