Selkirk primary pupils go wild in the woods!

Sept 2024

A group of pupils from some of the Selkirk cluster primary schools have embarked on a wild adventure in the local woods at the Haining and Mauldsheugh.

They have been given the fabulous opportunity to learn outdoors by the Harris Trust who are funding a 9 week programme of forest and outdoor learning.

They are not just learning outdoors, they are creating their own learning through the ethos of forest school and the pace is as fast as it is adventurous! They are keeping the leaders on their toes learning how to make rope swings, putting up hammocks, carving wood, discovering how to look after nature and how to have a safe fire. They are all working towards gaining a Forest and Outdoor Learning Award at SCQF level 2 with Newbattle Abbey College and they are the youngest ever candidates that the college has worked with.

Amazing!
Many thanks also to the Haining Trust for access to their site and Go Wild Scotland our new partner.
