The SPaRKs (Songwriting, Performance and Recording Kickstarter) Music Project started in 2022 and is aimed at, but not exclusive to, creative students (S3-S6) who are neurodivergent or who may be experiencing difficulties with mental health. The students are offered the opportunity to gain skills relevant to the music industry through workshop-based learning. SPaRKs sessions provide a fun, inclusive environment where young people can make connections with others who have a similar interest in music, increasing confidence and self-esteem. Currently there are regular groups at Selkirk High, Jedburgh Grammar and an evening session at MacArts.

We have a taster event planned for Monday 19th May, 6-7pm at Mac Arts

This includes young people who are diagnosed or undiagnosed autistic spectrum, ADHD, dyslexia or dyspraxia. Because this is a project that aims to have a positive impact on young people's mental health, we also invite young people who may have experienced trauma or those simply having a tough time in life. An interest in music and basic ability on an instrument is all that is needed to be involved.

YOUNG MUSICIANS WANTED TO JOIN 'SPaRKs' MUSIC PROJECT Are you interested in music and already play an instrument? Come for a taster with the Harris Trust 'SPaRKs' project. We run regular band sessions and all players are welcome - bring your instrument and come for a jam!

The taster event is on Monday 19th May, 6-7pm at Mac Arts, Galashiels.
